Laguana Atatsco NWR, near Rio Hondo, Texas. The welcome center has a small waterfall and pool which attracted many species of birds. This was my 1st opportunity to photograph Painted Buntings at close range.
This big fellow was given a saltwater catfish from a fisherman and it took about 30 minutes for him to figure out how to position it for swallowing, but he finally managed!
One of my favorite birds to observe and photograph is the Reddish Egret, it also comes in a White Morph phase which is also shown in this slideshow. The animated way with which they fish is very comical to watch.
